Tom Dixon's Mirror Ball Lamps (2003) evoke comparisons to the appearance of bubbles hovering in the air. And indeed, the comparison is not too distant from how the design is made. Blown like a bubble into a mold, the interior of each plastic sphere is coated with a film of real chrome for a highly reflective finish. The process is technically complex, requiring a vacuum metallization process that Dixon has developed over a number of years, as well as specialized machinery and an ultra-clean environment. Crafted by highly skilled technicians, every lamp is inspected to ensure it meets Dixon's demanding quality standards.
